Government securities are the securities issued by the Government on behalf of the State on domestic or foreign markets attesting to the right of the holder thereof to obtain, within the time limits provided for, an amount corresponding to a nominal value thereof, an interest, or other equivalent.
By their duration the Government securities are categorised as follows:
- Treasury bonds — with a maturity shorter than one year;
- Government bonds — with a maturity exceeding one year.
