Euro in Lithuania

In order to promote the public's greater interest in economic and financial issues, the Ministry of Finance and Lithuanian National Television implemented a joint project “Economics by the Labučiai”. The issues are viewed from the family’s perspective on TV broadcasts.

The main focus is on the issues that are of relevance to the majority of people: how to manage the family budget, protect savings from inflation, how and when to plan purchases, to take credits and where to make investments.

Daily life problems are solved by the Labučiai family: dad Vytautas – a saxophonist, jazz virtuoso, mom Rasa – a free-lance designer, twelve year-old Karolis – a student in the 6th form, two-and-a half  year old Jonas – a kindergartener. The family is assisted by financial experts.

“Economics by the Labučiai” consists of twelve broadcasts. They aim at a simple explanation of cornerstone economic and financial laws, giving knowledge on money management. The issues important to the Labučiai family are also related to public sector, public finances and general economic trends.

Economic education is also one of the objectives of the Public Information on the Euro Adoption and Communication Strategy approved by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
